Vanessa Marin

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and lived on the island until I joined the United States
Army in 2008. I served in the Army for seven years as a Paralegal Specialist with the Judge
Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps. As a Paralegal Specialist, I provided legal and administrative
support to Army JAG lawyers and unit commanders in various areas of law such as criminal,
contract, family, international, civil and administrative law.

My grandfather served in the Army during the Korean War era, and my eldest son is a veteran
who served in the United States Air Force.

In 2015, I was medically retired from active duty. After my military service ended, I decided to
pursue a civilian career as a Paralegal and received a bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies
from St. Petersburg College (SPC). While attending SPC, I was selected to work as the student
office assistant for the Paralegal Program. I also volunteered as a member of the Legal Studies
Society and as a member of the Student Veteran Association. It was during this time at SPC that
I decided I wanted to pursue a career helping my fellow Veterans.

I’ve been working in the veterans law field as a Senior Paralegal for a little over four years now.
I am an Accredited VA Claims Agent. I am an active member of the Florida State Bar Registered
Paralegal Program and currently hold a position as an appointed member of the Florida
Registered Paralegal Enrichment Committee. I am an active member of NALA and
commissioned as a Florida Public Notary. I’ve been an active member of NOVA since 2021.

Assisting my fellow veterans is my passion. I love listening and sharing stories in a
compassionate and caring way. As a veteran, I understand their journey and sacrifice for our
country. I help veterans with their claims at all levels of the Department of Veterans
Affairs, from the Regional Office to the Board of Veterans Appeals, as well as at the Court of Appeals
for Veterans Claims.
